Mother's Day

I had a great 2nd Mother's Day!  We spent Saturday enjoying the beach and Coronado Island, and Sunday we had a picnic at the park. It was fun to reminisce about my first mother's day last year, when Luke was just 6 weeks old. It was so special to spend it with my mom-something I hadn't done since before college.

This past year of being a mom I have definitely learned a lot! The type of parent I planned to be is quite different than the parent I have become and I wouldn't have it any other way. Some of the things I have learned this past year are:

1. Be flexible! Babies are not always predictable and as much as I can write out a schedule and try to stick to it, things might not always go according to plan and that's ok!

2. Think "big picture."  When Luke was first born I was so worried that if I rocked him to sleep every night, he'd never learn to go to sleep on his own. Or if I didn't follow the "babywise" schedule perfectly he wouldn't be a happy baby. (Nothing wrong with that book-I absolutely love it but have learned to take and choose what works for us). In the grand scheme of things, Luke will only be little for so long so I have chosen to hold him, rock him, love him to pieces and not sweat the small stuff. And he's a GREAT sleeper and VERY happy!

3. Enjoy and soak in moments with my baby, not a spotless house. When Luke was first born I tried so hard to keep things picked up, bed made, and things organized. It would drive me nuts when I couldn't finish something due to the demands of an infant. Finally, I let things go and decided I will do ONE thing a day, make my son the main part of everything I do, and be at peace with that.

I am SO thankful to be a mama!! There is no greater joy than being a parent.
