Weddings, Father's Day, and More Weddings!

This month has been full of weddings-3 weekends in a row, to be exact!  The first one was for an old roommate of mine, here in San Diego.  The second one was in Cincinnati, for one of my best friends since childhood (we met in kindergarten!).  I was in the wedding so Luke got lots of one-on-one time with daddy. :)

Happy Father's Day!

New watch for Father's Day!
Luke was spoiled at the hotel :)

The last and final one was in Orange County for one of Jesse's childhood friends, and this one he officiated! He was so honored to be asked and Luke and I were so proud to watch him!  Jesse's grandparents were in town so we spent the weekend there and had lots of Jacobs family time.

17 days...

This is how many days are left in the month and how many days we have left to raise the rest of our budget- $6900.  Over the past 5 years that Jesse has been on staff with InterVarsity, God has met EVERY ONE of our needs.  He has provided in AMAZING ways, often when we haven't even asked or expected it.  The verse I am always reminded of this time of the year when we are praying for the final amount to come in, is:

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?  (Matthew 6:26)

I am also reminded that He is the same yesterday, today & forever. (Hebrews 13:8)  Last year He provided every single dollar we needed, the year before that He did the same, therefore I can trust that He will continue to do so. I look forward to sharing with you how He provides the amount we have left to raise!  In the meantime, here are the praises for this year:
  • 53 students came to faith (3 of which were led by a freshmen after he preached)!
  • 18 people joined the support team!
  • "No Secrets" outreach was a huge success and gave both Christians & Non-Christians an opportunity to receive healing and prayer for secrets in their life that had been tearing them up inside...watch a video about it here
  • 26 leaders joined Dorm team for the 2011-2012 school year

Photo Shoot

We took family & newborn pictures when Luke was 6 weeks old and we just got them back.  It's crazy to look at them and realize just how much he's grown in a few short months. He looks so tiny in these pictures & so big now!  Here are some of our favorites:

DORM TEAM

Last week we hosted a barbeque for InterVarsity's Dorm Team.  This is a team of 30 students who lead bible studies in the dorms of UCSD.  Their primary purpose is to show freshmen the love Jesus has for them.  Jesse was a part of Dorm Team as a student and has overseen the ministry for the past 5 years he has been on staff.  These students have a passion for freshmen, seeing lives changed, and helping students learn who Jesus is by studying the gospels.
This year's Dorm Team

Over the past 5 years Jesse has tweaked and changed the structure of Dorm Team in order to reach as many freshmen as possible.  Currently, each college (there are 6 at UCSD!) has a team of 4 leaders who lead weekly Bible studies with anywhere from 10-25 freshmen.  They also mentor and disciple students as well as lead outreaches in the dorms.  There are also 4 leaders that make up the "core team." These leaders meet with Jesse to plan outreaches and coach the bible study leaders on leading bible studies in the dorms.

I have slowly been getting to know and love these leaders-they are amazing! I am so inspired and in awe of their love for God, the bible, and the campus.  Many of these students did not know the Lord when they came to college, or their faith was their parents.  They have sought after truth and have found that Jesus is the one true God. College is a time where people are figuring out who they are and what they believe.  Freshmen year is a crucial time to reach students before other things of this world grab hold of their heart.  These students are fighting for freshmen's hearts and are winning! Jesse feels so blessed to be placed in charge of this awesome ministry.
